植物や小さな生き物の有機的な形の中に時折、奇妙な妖艶さや不気味な連続性を感じる。
彼らが成長に必要だったその形。
自らの既視感を超え、不思議でたまらないのと同時に対峙している自分という存在が急にあやふやになる。
私たちは脈々とした彼らの進化の延長線上に生きているとされているが、
見れば見るほど彼らが未知なる存在に見えてくる。
本当に彼らと繋がっているのだろうか。
はたまた彼らからしても私たちはとてつもなく珍妙な生き物に映っているかもしれない。
石は冷たくてやわらかい。
様々な生き物の堆積であり、地球の痕跡でもある。
彼らも私たちもやがてその一部になる。
作品をつくることで自分自身や自然と繋がり、この行ったり来たりする疑問と感覚を表現したい。
KANAE OKANO is sculptor based in Tokyo, Japan.
She creates various contemporary sculptures inspired by nature at her studio in the countryside of Tokyo.
“When I look at the various natural creatures that surround me, I sometimes feel a strange bewitching or slightly eerie continuity in their organic forms.
By cutting out a part of nature, one can see existence beyond one’s own preconceived notions and knowledge.
The stones that I use as materials for sculpture are deposits of various creatures, even if they are hard, and are traces of the earth.
I hope that by creating these sculptures, viewers will be able to connect with nature and reacquaint themselves with the environment in which they live.“
